California Raining

Rain never ending
Barren hillsides devouring
Mudslides triggering
The rain’s often a blessing
Or catastrophe brewing!

Rain’s life-sustaining
But too much is misery
Pain and injury
Nature often approving
But sometimes unforgiving

From swollen rivers up high
Yet another tempest’s nigh
The dark clouds will hide the sun
No more drought in the long run

Disasters soon be forgot
Heavenly rains not for naught
Wild fires absent next summer
Hillsides meadows much greener

Flowering fruit trees
Promising bounteous harvest
When comes autumn fest
The sun-kissed grapes in the vine
Soon to be fine-tasting wine

Since late December 2022, Californians have suffered through historic levels of rain and snow that have flooded roads and homes, forced evacuations and cut power to millions.
Almost the entire state received 400% to 600% of its typical average rainfall since Christmas. Nine atmospheric river storms, corridors of air that can carry massive amounts of water over thousands of miles, have produced cascading impacts including landslides, sinkholes and downed trees that have damaged roads and homes.
