Ask Not Whom the Toll Bails

A Grecian corpse’s mouth contained a penny
Placed there by kin who thought he hadn’t any
To pay the toll required to cross the Styx
(A job that Charon got through politics)
He sold another chit for their return
To innocents who later grieved to learn
That  Charon was a crook, and they’d been sold
A bill of goods for none could get paroled
