Goodbye.

Wrinkles dance along my face
take the place
of a once youthful smile
I suppose I haven’t been young for a while

My eyes are wise
they’ve learned to see through a disguise
they’ve wept
carried my sadness
flashed in my madness
and released my tears into the wild
they haven’t changed
not even since  I was a child

My nose
it’s grown accustomed to the smell of the kitchen
a pie in the oven
my way of loving
the smell of my children
their messes
and the scent of their clean dresses

I am no longer fresh
but I have lived
I’ve laughed and cried
said all my goodbyes
made peace with my fate
and have come to accept
that it is my time

so goodbye
goodbye to my life
to the wrinkles I tried to hide
to the eyes I begged to stay dry
to the smells I’ll always remember
you are the reason why
now during my time
I am able to say a peaceful goodbye
