I saw a man and his crumb snatchers
sprawled on the porch of their home,
it was painted a bright ocher with blue trim,
small, modest, humble, clean, giving—
A joy, in short.
He is happy to be piled upon,
always a smell, never neutral,
and even at night
some tiny noise
to remind him of the life
for which he is responsible.
