The Great Dance in the Sky (D)

Lightening dances across the sky
The dancefloor a pit of black.
Her old love, Thunder, a strong guy,
Rolls and bellows with his back

Against the clouds that are his dire
Calling to her after each flash of bare
Skin bright as day, as hot as fire.
He wonders if she notices or even cares.

She reaches for the groud to hide
From her desperate suitor now
Growing louder, knowing she won’t abide.
For he came to dance, not just bow

Out to the rain who also cries
During this calamity of beauty versus beast
For he knows he, too, will soon die
And be soaked up by the earth’s grand feast

Now and forever more their audience gazes
Into the skies to watch these three dance
In a symphony of sound, water, and blazes.
Some astonished, others, not even a second glance.

(2011)

I wrote this while listening to a thunderstorm last summer. The (D) at the end of the title (along with my other works) is a sign that I wrote this work shortly after my divorce.
