Grains of Salt

Being young can be fun and scary
It’s what leaves old men old and weary

Summers are fleeting and there is little to care
Young girls find young boys whose hearts they might wear

But herein lies one terrible truth
That there will come a day when we all forget our youth

Gone will be the valor and desire to be brave
Until all that we wish for is a quicker grave

Then faster will approach the day we shall die
As we take on our slice of American pie

But while you are still young, free and wild
Let me offer to you some advice my dear child:

Breathe the free air deep in each lung
Always be mindful of your heart and your tongue
Leave no leaf unturned nor any song unsung
And never shall you forget what it is to be young
