The Grand Design

By Jackson Brown

Be happy with what God gave you
Don’t ask for more
Let things play out how they may
And perhaps someday
We’ll know what it was all for
Be content in the world
It’s all part of God’s mind
Don’t seek to alter
For surely you’ll falter
From His grand design

Stay the course.

But, you see, I reject this thinking.

This is thinking
That to me seems most strange
For letting go runs adjacent
To being complacent
And prohibits real change
See this same mind
That is part of God’s design
Was given free will
Not to be still
But to better this world in its time

The problem is not spirituality or prayer
For both are needed
The problem is when prayer
Becomes an excuse
For a mind in disuse
And responsibility ceded

The solution is simple.

When we use our hearts and our hands
Rather than listen to commands
Some scripture may laud
We will move this world forward
In a direction more toward
Knowing the true heart of God
