FREEDOM, My Words

By J Ann Crowder

I write freedom with the sound of words, like free motion in wind carrying an eagle in flight. In this modern America I’m tired, because it is the wind we beat down as we hinder the soul of words with its simplicity in free thought. I don’t understand why we admire her eagle wings while we beat down the wind beneath them swooping her into open horizons! I don’t understand fear in exchange for barriers plighting our freedoms! Will we no longer sing & pledge our allegiance to open horizons? Or, must we refrain our tongues from words free-flowing while bowing to the security of a locked cage? Not when humankind’s greatest longing is for outstretched wings, and to feel the heat of a beautiful horizon on our skin! We are not birds in a cage, or a taming of a leashed dog! We want to be free to roam. God is the only master of freedom; anything else is but the master of a slave. Government cannot be a master if but only to slaves; because sovereign souls were meant to fly free from cages, roaming far away from tethers.
