Into August

Tucked under layers

of skin and cloth

I am on the other side of the window.

——-

Here, I’ve surrendered

to 3 o’clock in the afternoon.

The long shadows

and the thick air

create a likely bond

agreeing to bury me deeper

and deeper

into this lazy stupor.

——-

But there is is no comparison

to ice cold air

and immobile fingers

which keep me constantly moving

and moving

just to keep warm.

——-

Says the Fall and Spring:

“To each their own!”

I suppose.

(2013)

What can I say? I love a lazy summer day, but I often miss the colder months.
