I was here

As I find myself alone in a desolate room A soldier laughs at my
impending doom
I feel no hatred towards his permeation
He is following his belief in all its foundations

I can do nothing except but to wait and wait
While the general in situ seals my faith
I have no regrets for I know my place
And my beliefs that are strong and full of faith

My body is weak but my soul strong
I now know where I truly belong
I am human I am Irish but I am but one man
Who followed his beliefs to do all he can
To free those who are shackled by pain and restraint.

I ask not be known as a sinner or saint
All that I wish is for people to remember
That my comerades and I fought for freedom and no surrender.
