Never Forgotten

Before the birds awaken my slumber
The sound of canon fire roaring like thunder Jumps me so straight that I hasten to wonder frightened and shocked shaken from under

Milly and Sean and the neighbour down under run like the divil who’s been torn asunder
We hide in a cubbyhole away from the fray praying for restitute or a dream to go away
English accents are all abound as we cower beneath the stony ground
The creak of the floorboards and the sound of the boots make us relinquish our Irish roots

One by one we emerge to pass
Sorry for our capture but never an impass
For in our hearts we fought for you
We lived and we died so that you can too
