St. Luke, Chapter 5

He stood by the lake of Genasereth,
And behind him, a swelling crowd,
Who cried “speak to us oh Jesus”
And their cries were clear and loud,
So Jesus, looking away from the multitude
Saw two ships upon the quay
And after asking a man called Simon,
He was taken out upon the sea.

From his seat in the small fishing boat,
He taught the word of God,
And to those who were weakening sinners,
His voiced pierced their hearts like a burning rod,
And when he had finished his sermon,
He said to Simon, “launch out into the deep
And send your nets to the fishes,
For a harvest you shall reep.

Simon turned and said to him,
”Master, we have laboured all night
And each time our nets came back empty,
For there wasn’t a fish in sight,
But at your word i’ll put down my nets,
For wisdom, I have none."
So saying he threw over all his nets,
Not leaving even the smallest one.

And behold the fishes came in multitudes,
So that two boats were quickly filled,
And each man gazed in wonder,
Each heart more than deeply thrilled.
And the fisherman looked in astonishment,
At these fishes that came from the Lake,
For all through the night they had laboured,
And not one fish did they take.

Simon Peter fell on his knees,
Crying, “Lord i’ve been a sinful man,
But at your word I will leave this place,
And follow you wherever I can.”
But Jesus raised a hand to him,
And said, “Simon, why fear ye then,
For instead of catching fishes,
You can help me catching men.”
