An eight year old boy scrambles
over the rubble of his neighbourhood,
where once he played streetball
with his missing schoolmates.
With Ibex like agility he leaps,
legs stretched in flight,
from fragmented boulder to breezeblock,
lintel, window frame.and hearthstone.
Bloodied strings of beads
bedeck every other tree branch,
that stretch fingerlike from the remains of a hospital.
The little boy is braver than a hundred men.
