Earlier

I saw you earlier and you looked
So stressed if I’m honest about things
But I wonder, did I make the right call?
I spoke to you once (and I was hooked)
With quick fantasy (of worn out bedsprings)
All for your sake (I would still gladly fall)

I saw you earlier, and you looked
Beautiful, even hidden behind
The bookshelves, and the passing strangers
May as well join (Is this table booked?)
The distance between us (Hope you don’t mind)
Me standing alone (free from your dangers)

I saw you earlier, and you looked
So much better up close, and unclothed
Those things were just holding you down anyway
I’m sick of living (by proper conduct)
No chance of being (any more loathed)
My self-hatred (is on public display)

I saw you earlier, and you looked
Up at me, and gifted a sudden smile
That I simply wasn’t prepared for
I smile back at you (after I’d ducked)
And settle my fancy (I’ll hide a while)
And know you’re with him (though I’d love you more)
