time and death and life

time and death and life

Here are some words of advice
I must tell myself them too
Don’t dwell on the past its done and dusted
I realize as I look at the old pics on my laptop some from
A beach far away and long ago
With my faded jeans and long  light brown hair
And youthful blue eyes and ready smile
Then theres a pic of mum my age now or less
In her dark blue swimsuit and large sun hat
Covered with her coconut tanning cream
And her huge smile and blue eyes
There I sat with her
In my little blue one piece speedo cossie
Aged 8 or so
My friends are there and my sisters too

I can still smell the salty sea and feel the hot sand
Beneath my little toes
Then there is a pic of my dad passed on now
Sitting on his beach towel almost black from the sun
With his huge white grin and laughing eyes
He lived for the water

Going back further I see pics of my grandfather
Passed on years ago
Standing outside my house looking down to the gully below

Looking down to the gully below
There he stood over 80 or more in his dressing gown
Remembering his younger days
When he was a young boy

Then I find some recent pics
Of my kids when they were babies
How time has gone so quick
My advice to you
If you are half my age or more
Relish and cherish and live for your kids
They wont be young forever and neither will you

We are all at the mercy of time
Time can be kind and time can  be cruel
Its up to you
How you play the game of life
As an ignorant fool or a wise young person
Who knows his day will come
Time forgets no one
No one is invisible
From time
Time will save no one
you cant run from time

Times hands will come out of that  invisible clock
like the one on my grandfathers old shelf
And grab you and take you to that  uknownplace
That place where the river is cool and the sky
Is so blue and the trees sway and birds chirp
And children play happy and so gay
And when time grabs you by the hand
It will lead you to another  place another time
Where you and I will all learn another song
And your pictures  of your life
Of your memories
Of time
Will live in your eyes as fragments
As specks of your coloured iris

You will relive all the days
Of the pictures all faded and grey
You will know when time comes to get
You that
You  have lived your life and
as you shed your last tear
and smell your last taste of fear
as the gulp in your throat
gets stiffer and stiffer
don’t be afraid
we will all go there one day
just close your eyes
and let the music play of your favourite song in
your mind
you will hear the song of your youth
and see the pics all faded and grey
all come to life now
in your closing tired eyes
in your closing tired eyes
you will smile and recall
sitting on that beach
with your mum and dad dear
and smell the sea and feel the hot sand
beneath your little toes
and you will go there again
in your youth
and as you close your eyes
and feel the sun and the sand and the
strong smell of sea salt envelop you now
you will
see your grandfather and father and sister and auntie
all departed now and waiting eagerly for your arrival now
there standing at the ocean
they are waiting for you now
you are taken from your sick bed
to this wonderful  place of sun and sea salt and
wait there is me I see
standing on the beach
there we walk along the sand
all hand in hand
and the sun sets
so don’t cry don’t cry if if time has come to take you away
its all  sun and sand and sea salt in my minds eye
