What I Know

Full and whole as the moon
Strong as the river current
Dainty as the lace petals of Queen Anne
My love for you becomes a part of it.
You bring me closer to the surface,
As I have been floating far and fast amongst the sea spray.
But you reel me in
For you’ve caught my weary spirit
And given breath to my empty lungs.
My eyes are no longer blurred,
And I see the wonder in you.
I will never tire of the beauty in your smile.
Soft, pink frames that curl back
Showing strong, white stallions.
The breeze follows you,
Blowing beautiful leaves along its course.
The very sun feels warmer with you under it.
And storm clouds know to disappear when you walk outside.

With our fingers interlocked,
I know that I could never be the one to let go.
And I pray you never do.

For otherwise the clouds would return
And the sun would no longer shine.
Leaves would fly franticly
Whilst a smile would turn inward and down,
No longer showing pearly whites.
I would no longer see wonder, but dismay in you,
Cataracts would fill my eyes
And I would suffocate without you.
My wandering spirit flying free
I sink, being pulled further out to sea.
Dainty enough to tear
Strong enough to take me out
Empty and caved,
My life would be.

But with our fingers interlocked,
I know that I could never be the one to let go.
And I know you never will.
