Everyone says that I’ll remember,
I can’t,
Even if it’s only been a few years,
I can only remember your funeral,
There were lots of tears.
I cry,
I try to realize that you were never going to come home.
Even if your promise is broken,
I’ll try not to sink like a stone.
I think the whole family is over it,
I still have to mask it with a brave face,
I’m tripping and stumbling in numbness at a slow pace.
I you didn’t come home to me,
And I didn’t get to say goodbye,
But at least you died making sure Americans had freedom in their lives.
