Sizzling swelter of summer
piercing blister of ruthless sun
rising mercury around
political heat from
blaring microphones, road shows et al
by garlanded demagogues
with usual digs, potshots and innuendoes
driving the thinking minds
into a boiling cauldron
of helplessness and confusion
the thirsty doggie enjoying siesta blissfully
on a mound of sand
in reckless abandon
and gay procrastination
cute butterfly unfolding
the rainbow of myriad colours
prophesying uncertainty
of hung house at the hustings
soiled statues of erstwhile unsung heroes
grinning and mocking at
the fake promises
doled out eloquently
like a mirage in the desert
like a spell of dry thunder
arousing vain hope of rain
for drought-stricken peasants
like the expectant looks
of erotic statues of konark
waiting for fantasized lovers
