Petals on the Pavement

Left crushed under the feet are her tender leaves,
Left trampled under the soles are her delicate petals,
Nipped by the dirty hands and left bruised are her soft buds,
Left stranded on the side walk are her stunted velvet shoots,
There she lays, sore, and down on the ground,
Left under the sun and beaten by the weather!

Fortune or fate! She was born into this world,
Through the door of the pavement, of a concrete floor,
So poor is her squalid abode,
Alas! she doesn’t even have space,
Even for a drop of dew to store,
She exclaims! she doesn’t have a bed of mulch,
To lay down, when she was left down and sore!

She smiles back at the staring eyes,
Praising the mettle of her stunted velvety shoots,
She blushes when she hears, the whispers,
Admiring the beauty of her creased,
Yet, tender, sheeny, and shiny green crown,
She chuckles, when a naughty child,
Tickles the  fragrant petals of her pretty face,
There she breathes, to live one more battle,
With her soul, gritty, hardy, and strong as metal,
Despite of the pain, her message to the world is clear,
Never step back in doubt or withdraw in fear,
Sometimes the only way to success is to live through ... Did you hear?
