Still and Grey

I stand upon the edge of a great precipice
Looking down through clouds obscured
Unknowing what lies beneath
A chill in the wet air and drops condense
Grey, sunless, cold
The fresh breeze soothes with the scent of rain
I inhale deeply and close my eyes
I am at peace in the still and grey
A foot off the edge and I descend
Through silvery clouds
Rivulets of rain streak my smiling face
I am whole
Complete
I am at peace in the still and grey

I grew up in the desert where a grey, rainy day is rare. I've always loved the rain, it's moving and beautiful and spiritual to me. Many people feel depressed on a gloomy day but I find it renewing and cleansing. This poem is about that feeling, I pictured standing on the edge of a cliff in Venezuela, taking in the view above the clouds, walking off the edge and falling through cool, wet air, feeling at peace :)
