Lost at Sea

through the sea smoke’s shimmering steeples
where the Passamaquoddy flows
the pulsing heartbeat of the strobe lights
in my footsteps, crunching snow

through the whirling, wind-blown furrows
in the scattered seeds it sows
hope lies buried with the ice flowers
on the frozen ground below

through the steaming, tangled forest
where the black-winged raven flies
from the widow’s walk she watches
dawn creep   shivering   to the sky
