Eight Minutes

To the overly paranoid

It’s strange to think that
Whether you think about
The simple means and ends
Or the scientific reasoning,
We would either have
Eight minutes
Or much more than a year
To look up to the sky
And notice something was missing.
Think about it.
Worst case scenario.
If the sun,
Our source of warmth and light,
Were to vanish,
We wouldn’t know about it for eight minutes.
Eight minutes to be stuck in traffic one more time,
To not have time to kiss a loved one,
To schedule yourself that overtime,
To fret over lost house keys,
To stress over an exam,
To analyze the text from that potential mate,
To win that argument,
To be annoyed at the honking of a car horn
Outside your window,
To breath natural air,
To blink without worry.
Life is precious.
And it might only remain that way
For the next eight minutes.
How do you plan to spend them?
