Forest

To the ones who know

Miniature canopies
Grouped together tightly,
Their silent, patternless fluttering
Allowing tinted sunlight to shine
On a world hidden in shade.
Huge, armored giants
Stand tall and unwavering,
Tirelessly holding up the breathing roof
Of the endless halls beneath.
Silent heartbeats of
Tiny legs and running water
Pulse through the all encompassing
Floor of clean filth.
Hierarchal chains
Allow the strongest, the swiftest
And the most cunning
To vie one another for ruling dominance
In a world where both master and inferior
Are equal and symbiotic.
Unhatched eggs and little children
Taken from their immobile mothers
To be eaten alive or cast aside
Will themselves one day
Grow as tall, proud and indifferent
As their ancient forefathers.
A world of dwarves and giants
Thanklessly sacrificing valuable resources
To protect a people of greed
Who demand such gifts
Even as they despoil their own,
Taking all,
Leaving nothing alive
In their wake.
