Haikus

Bringing it back.

Fats Waller
The clown prince of jazz.
We never truly learned to
Appreciate you.

Leaves
The earth welcomes them,
The rainbow appendages
That fall from giants.

Stars
Glowing pale and cold,
Faraway flames shine brightest
Above dreaming minds.

Piano
Tinkling fingers stride.
Across a black and white floor
They dance together.

Hero
I'll always wonder
What my life would have been like
If I had powers.

Court
Glistening armor,
Sharpened sword and tempered shield.
I'm ready for you.

Sarah
You will never know
How grateful I'll always be
That you said I do.

Crazy
Who defines madness?
The one who says you are mad
Or that voice inside?

Knight
Rescuing damsels
Is a sexist profession
In the modern world.

Capitalism
No one understands
How their lives could be bettered.
Avarice Prevails.

Jose I
My broken brother.
He is in the hospital.
For once, not his fault.

Building
Golden dome atop
The old lake shore drive building
With the blue spire.

Jose II
Curled brown hair and beard
Mask easily distracted
Features. ADD.

Boss
Searching limbs and eyes:
They judge what they do not know.
Micromanaging.

Deep
I have a problem.
There is a pen in my nose.
What do I do now?

Cats
Black and tortoiseshell,
One grumpy, the other fat.
Their purrs comfort me.

Maker
If there was a god,
An alpha and omega,
He left long ago.

Atheist vs Zealot
Two seekers of truth,
Limited by the fear of
The answers they seek.

Sucker
I know solitude.
For I know what friendship means.
My disappointment.

Immoral vs Illegal
Who can separate
Between what is right and wrong?
Laws are easier.

The Hard Truth
Kids die everyday.
Only the good die young, right?
The world keeps spinning.

Moon
Hail, O wondrous craft,
O vessel silver sailing
Across darkest seas!

Detritus
Civilizations
Shrouded by emerald shadows
Hidden in solitude.

Fate
Our reality
Is most pliable during
A time of meaning.

Metaphor I
Flowing water runs
Crystal clear, without evil,
Untainted and free.

Doubt
The only blemish
On an otherwise spotless
Record of service.

Leaves
Tiny skeletons
Spiral gently downward
Awaiting rebirth.

Music
My soul is nourished,
My heart is touched, and I find
I want for nothing.

(2015)

I'll try to have more every month. Haikus are extremely therapeutic to me and I find myself jotting them down all the time.
