Into the Night

Where dreams live

Put a silk cloth over my tired eyes
And usher me out into the night.
Guide me over brush and thicket,
Lead my bare feet away from the sharp stones.
Steer me blindly down unidentifiable paths,
Past the shopkeepers closing up theirs wares,
Past the howling dogs in the kennels,
The vagrants in their hovels,
The flowers closing their blooms,
The children tucked in warm beds.
Take me past a world getting ready for rest and respite,
On, on, on into the night,
Where the streets shine in the moonlight
Without names, and without ends,
Where the world is waking from weariness
To face the cooling, silver glow.
And when we get to the world of waking dreams
Where paths stretch on like diamond serpents
Towards choices and possibilities,
Take off my blindfold
So that I may see and know my own paths,
And so that I may follow them without hindrance
Or help
In the land of sleepless dreams.
