Reunion

Through thicket brush and mountain high,
Through deep and emerald sea,
Through valley lush and winter sigh
She found herself back home to me.

My love, my love, where hast thou been,
What jewels beyond the quay
Could call your eyes of forest green
To tear themselves away from me.

Says I, my love, thou left me here
For winters, summers three.
By sky above and devils near,
I wish you to be gone from me.

For ere you left, our infant son
Oft bounced upon my knee,
Now breath and beat are both undone;
‘Tis been cold since you both left me.

Her eyes and fears, the shallow grave,
Her woe transformed to glee;
Her love and tears both she did save
As she bade her last farewell to me.
