Towers

To those of you who make their own reality

Behold!
Eyes even half closed
May not ignore them.
Lo! see them shining distantly
Like spears of angels
Wrapped in a fiery wrath!
Or does such radiance
Limit your gaze?
Or are glowing embers
Of Heavenly glory
Hidden in splendor?
To look upon that dais,
That cloud-borne bliss,
That realm of sunlight glistening,
Is to avert mortal gazes.
Harken to the bells
That sound across infinity,
Across the blue plains of morning,
Filling empty hearts,
Healing ancient wounds
With loving indifference.
But what awaits the pursuer,
The gazer, the believer?
What lies in wait for
The lonely traveler,
The wandering sage,
Those seekers of truth
Whose faith was neither unjustified
Nor forgotten?
Perchance to hear the harmonies
Of echoing heavenly chimes
Sounding in the clear?
A place of rest, a floating hope
For the wanderer deserving slumber
In the towers?
The towers?

(2013)

I read the Voyage of the Dawn Treader for the first time when I was little, and the thought of a land beyond the sun has been with me ever since. Who is to say that just because we know the sun is a mass of flaming gases that there can't be a reality on another level where buildings and castles and towers exist, and perhaps have always existed? Sometimes I still look towards the sun and wonder if I can't see green hills far off in the distance.
