Imperfections of the Moon

No one ever dared ask the Moon why she bares her craters
For every divot in her skin is what composes her loving face
If one were to ask surely she’d smile as all mothers do
To the innocence of children, or just ignorantly rude
Responding; every mark has a story
The scars are merely my history scribbled across me
Even the Sun in his hot ego is not flawless
Beyond the gas allusions and the blinding lights
Beholds a bubbling mass of imperfection
Putting on a show as all good fathers do
Only presenting what he feels should be seen
If one were to ask why he hides his flaws
Surely he would wince at being revealed
All the while admitting he lets his better qualities shine through
So that his children may follow in his steps
Using his glow to spotlight our strengths
For just as they are, their children are riddled with imperfections
From them we can learn to wear our craters with dignity
While permitting our gifts to surpass our faults
