if ever we speak

I’ve heard it said
many times before,
one good man
can change the world,
and alter all
sadness befallen,
the end result
a utopian world,

well I’m no good man
though I try to be,
but this dystopian
hell reigns about me,
and the more I kick
and force out screams,
the more it rattles
the mettle of me,

I’ve heard it said
in many tongues,
some spoken harsh
some kissed deep and long,
that I can change the world
by changing myself,
but as I try
the hinges come right off,

and the reality of self
floods in off a page,
and the visual imagery
conjures palindrome rage,
and sworn in by nobody
comes the honey roast glaze,
if we ever speak
we’ll turn a deaf ear,
