Cheers to Me

Palms itch, your hands start to shake,
your mind goes wild, your body aches

The voices’ so loud you can’t even think,
Screaming, clawing, it needs a drink

One goes down, heart hurts, bittersweet,
but it warms the body from head to feet.

Two turns to three, three to four,
And next thing u know all u see is the floor

Friends help you up, u may laugh or cry,
Drive on home, even if someone could die

Hello there, who are u? Strange man in my bed?
And why is this big lump on the back of my head?

What happened last night? Did I laugh? Did I cry?
Did I make myself a fool?
Did I tell them all lies?

The story ensues, as it does, you get smaller,
“This is the last time!”, like mother, like daughter.

The night is over, the deeds are done,
Why oh why, was my will power overcome?

You pledge your pledge and say your vow,
Never again, will a drink make me bow.

But before you know it your at it like sin,
Where am I? What time? Addiction wins again.

Try so hard, to fall, to fail,
Even though your life has gone totally stale.

It makes me happy, right?
Or does it truly?
It makes me erratic, unkept, unruly.

This is my life, the truth I discover,
Maybe one day I’ll get the strength to recover

Til then u have this tale of weakness and weary,
So pass me the vodka and a cup of cranberry.
