Poem: One day

You bring out the wanderer in me.
The walking along the highway in me.
The flying my thumb in the wind in me.
The journey being the adventure in me.
The walk all night to see your smile in me.

You bring out the hurt bum in me.
The put my soul on display in me.
The got any spare change in me.
The wild on drugs in me.
The free loving hippie in me.

You bring out the dreamer in me.
The picket fences be damned in me.
The dreams really do come true in me.
The sleeping bag has room for two in me.
The creating new ways to be happy in me.

You bring out the smelly gutter punk in me.
The hiding from rain in a doorway in me.
The I don’t care what they think in me.
The dumpster diving freeway in me.
The sidewalk fortune teller in me.

You bring out the invincibility in me.
The rest of the world be damned in me.
The caravan to a rainbow gathering in me.
The rules are only made to be broken in me.
The let’s run barefoot through the grass in me.

You bring out the street corner poet in me.
The late night coffeehouse versification in me.
The searching for my personal nirvana in me.
The squat in an abandoned tenement in me.
And preciosa, one of these days I’ll find you.
