Poem: Words Past

Hanging limp,
ratted
on a dreadlock line
strained,
stained;
wearied,
burdened by age
and wet blundering weight.

Threadbare,
frayed by myriads of pins;
rotted,
broken,
rusted.
Hanging by the splintered span
of time past
and passing.

Scattered refuse,
split wood
and bleached plastic
trod deep into dirt.
Ragged hangnails bared
to pinch and plunder
reminders of barren,
caked crevasses of cemented dirt.

A desiccated burial ground
of ancient memories
ruptured and rent
by vagrancy of
erstwhile eternities,
lapsed and forgotten.

The wind herself wearied,
Forever puffing breeze
in tiny gasps of breathlessness;
Insufficient wheezes of
youth and vibrancy
muted to unease.

To glide quarter mast
sails sheered slack,
dulled grey.
