Awake

I slowly open my eyes,
letting the muscles in my face slowly stretch to happiness.
The light shining through my curtains burns at first
but is quickly accepted into my annual morning debut.
I sit up and I hear faint cracks and pops coming from my back
letting me know that sleeping twisted into that position will cause later soreness.
The bed I sleep upon is fairly firm, I can feel the metal frame holding up the thin mattress.
Everything looks the same,
the same outdated Japanese calenders dangling from the wall,
the bright blue and colorful “Happy Bunny” poster being oh so welcoming for a sunny morning
the medals of theater performances, band solos jingling from their spots upon the wall.
These are the signs that tell me a loud “good morning”
and now my life has been awoken, awoken by some mysterious power...
a power called known by humanity as love.
It tells me,
“Welcome back, you’re awake now!”
It is something I welcome into my heart, soul, and mind.
And I tell myself...
“Welcome home.”
