Artificial Intelligence is all the Rage

For my grandson David Bray, with love

Human intelligence, now a retronym?
Like snail mail,
Analog clock?
Or can we assume artificial intelligence
Remains an oxymoron?

Love. Human love.
Intelligence at a fever pitch
Everything coming into play
Emotion, Body, Instinct, Cunning, more, Everything.
Tentacated impulses, millions in a short time
All finely, finally in balance,
Working at top speed, top row, top class.
We don’t hear of artificial love, do we?
Will we?

Love. Human love.
The last refuge of the Luddite
My son-in-law called me a Luddite
And my grandson, judging from our discussion
About Teslas,
Probably agrees.
Artificial impulses, artificial insights, artificial hatred
—All, all immune!
Human love, compared to what?
Love between replicants, yeah?
Science fiction, baby!
Yean, baby, let’s try artificial humor!
Artificial sweetener? sure,
Except for the nasty aftertaste.
But artificial sweetness?
I don’t think so.
Human sweetness:
A lovely soft stare with a gentle smile
When hearing a decent but second-class joke
From a loved human—that’s a sweet woman.
Sweetness comes immediately to mind!
No mediation in transistors or chips
And their attendant algorithms
Flashing adroit in Large Language Models
To spit out a cliché.
I see the David of Michelangelo
Or even the David of Bray
I think of Beauty—many layered—
Pulsing, all, everything at play.
Like love
And mine.
No amalgamation of next word guesses
Learned by raping the intellectual internet
Can address human appreciation
Human calm excitement
Heightened being
Expanded moment, or sequence of moments,
Beauty.
Before language
Perhaps beneath language,
Even above language.
I hope I’m accurate when I say before, beneath, and above.
Don’t want to confuse you, baby.
I’m just alive here in my fury.
Certainly not an artificial fury.

Anger is also the human intelligence at fever pitch.
What’s important to you, baby?
You can find out when you get angry.
Artificial anger?—there’s a beautiful field of study.
How about artificial anger management?
Got a good substitute for intelligence at a fever pitch?
Working working to corral deep anger
Working working to honor the anger
Observe the cause
And moderate the response
All at the same time?

Fuck you and your artificial stupidity.
