maybe, just maybe

slightly intoxicated
and honestly a little nauseated

is this what it takes for one to finally be able to feel?

imagine your favourite meal
how the heat dissipates from within
drool begins to seep down your chin
as you think about sinking your teeth in

exploring the sweet, salty & savoury
the nod of approval, almost mandatory!
feeling the textures– the crunch, the softness

the warmness, like a cozy hug
the coolness, ice lemon tea in a jug

the character in each dish!
potently complex and rich!
the rush of dopamine!
the generous explosion of flavours!

what if God denied you this favour?

—the joy and epiphany one experiences
as you giddily indulge
the delightful and divine aftertaste
for the flavours have no limitations
and offer generous sensations

—the grimace and distaste
somewhat oddly misplaced
the ability to disfavour
an unpleasant taste

now imagine this but with your emotions

you lay a waste
feeling like a doll encased
frozen
and stuck in place
as people walk by
shaking their heads in dismay

you lay numb
as your heart pounds
like a snare drum
and all you can think about
is what lies beyond the grounds

the drive and passion
your dedication and zeal
the liveliness and ambition
your enthusiasm and tenacity

all gone.

as you try your best
to rely on rationality
trying to remember
your once powered up personality

you wonder how you even ended in this position
the whimsicality of it all

as you attempt to climb up this wall
you gnaw and crawl
but all you end up with is a scowl

the harder you try
the more painful the fall

so maybe it’s time.

to sit with the numbess
and welcome it all

grant yourself compassion
tighten your seatbelt
keep yourself fastened

surround yourself
with people who keep you sane
maybe one day things might be the same

as you rack your mind
longing for a sip of champagne
practice constrain
but don’t be unkind

as your right brain
relearns to connect
with your left brain

for the harder i fight
the more i lose sight
as i lay in the night
awaiting first light
maybe

just maybe
everything may
eventually
be alright
