So many years,
So many tears
I fought my way through fire and doubt,
And still I don’t know what love is about.
I’ve tried so many times to make you understand.
And just tonight you claimed you wanted to be ‘that man‘.
How can you love me so incompletely?
Then ask me to drop everything.
I don’t want to fight,
Because I don’t want to win
I know if I do I will just let you back in.
Empty promises and broken dreams,
I thought it through and we had everything.
Unfortunately it just wasn’t enough for you and me.
Just take it as “It wasn’t meant to be”.
We had so much love,
We had so much trust,
But I can’t believe that I could just give into lust.
What I am telling you is this love isn’t real.
So just walk away.
There is no way I can stay.
There is no way to say what I have to say:
Lust isn’t love, and it isn’t what I dream of.
So if all you want is sex,
Go back and get it from your ex.
