Phantom

Shattered and Found

Longing for a fleeting caress
I’ve never known,
Falling for a smile
I’ve never seen.
Loving eyes whose color
Will forever remain a mystery;
Head over heels for a phantom.

What was your favorite color?
Did you prefer the golds of autumn,
Or winter’s silver chill?
Mine was winter;
The season when I fell for you.

Are your hands cold or warm,
Hands I’ll never hold?
Each night, I twirl with shadows,
Lost in your ghost’s embrace.
Daydreaming of a dream,
I wonder;
Was it you I felt that night,
Or the hollow touch of my own loneliness,
Pulling me into the madness of my heart?

Drowning in an ocean of shattered glass,
Each shard cuts me open,
Yet pulls me closer to you.
The jagged edges glint like memories;
Fractured, forgotten,
Dangerous to touch.

The silence between us
Could be our song,
A melody of deafening stillness.
But I am voiceless,
Terrified to ask
If you’d sing it with me.
