He walks in anger
he walks with fear
and in his hands
he walks with death.

They walk in innocence
they walk with joy
soon to be ended
by the shadow they do not see.

The chatter is broken
by the blatter of the killing gun
and uncounted they fall
seventeen down and don’t get up

There was no “good” man
to protect them with a gun,
their defenders stood aside
and watched the killing get done.

His job completed
he drops his gun
and disappears like a ghost
amongst the fearful ones.

From the seventeen graves
a hundred protests rise
and the six minutes twenty
of silence measures anger in their eyes.

He could have walked in anger
he could have walked with fear
but if he’d had no gun
he wouldn’t have walked with death.
