Boxed

There is a box that I keep hidden
Somewhere I shall tell you not
And though it’s small, it’s full of trinkets
And silly things that mean a lot.

There is a box that I have buried
And drowned the key that fits its lock
For only those who brave the ocean
Are brave to weather through my storm.

And I know what you are thinking
I also know that you are wrong
For those convinced they’ve caught my meaning
Have missed the words that sew my song.

There is a box that hides a mystery
And a curse that keeps it shut;
For those who know their history
Fear what may unleash its vault.

But someday, someone will look in it
And find a world of love and hope
And when they read the book within it
They’re going to ask me to elope.

And I know what you are thinking
I also know that you are wrong
For those convinced they’ve caught my meaning
Have missed the words that sew my song.

There is a box that I’ve forgotten
A keepsake I lost long ago
Of memories that once begotten
Can never truly be let go.

And though it’s small and full of trinkets
I keep it under key and lock
For in this box will remain hidden
The ambrosia to my heart.

And though it’s small and full of trinkets
I keep it under lock and key
For in this box is where I’ve hidden
Love songs you will sing to me.
