Depression

Overcast,
Sunshine never being spoken for,
Civilian life right outside the gate
Like heaven constantly outside an open door,
In history, this weather would be considered an omen
Manifesting prayers and sacrifices to call on Apollo
In weather, they say with warmth, happiness will follow
So in the absence of, must come gloom and drear,
With a disconsolate feeling among the public
Cheer and glee are prizes that never emerge near
Frowns commonplace and a majority of shoulders slumped
Feet being dragged as if carrying the burden
Of lost motivation
Environment like dry ice
Its the absence of heat thats burning a hole
Through the haven of optimism
Soon behavior is portraying hypocrisy
Imploring others to find happiness
While coming home feeling lost in a sea of pessimism
In hopes of a fortune overturning
Stomach churning due to another weather forecast
With more apologies than high numbers
The reporter bearing the news that this
Vexation of weather still hasn’t passed.

(2010)

I joined the military and went from a beautiful Arizona climate to Norfolk, Virginia. Needless to say, I was a little down.
