A Dog’s Dream
In the enduring schism
between “Dog People” and “Cat People”
(since hardly anyone can be both,
and people who get along without pets
are not really at issue here)
I will forever align myself
with the canine side.
They love us humans unconditionally,
and are never shy about
demonstrating exactly how much.
So when they can’t be with us
they occupy our spaces
and luxuriate in our scents
while patiently awaiting our return.
