Please Remember Me

When you have gone away, please keep safe, and please keep strong.
If you have to go, please do remember me, and sing our song.
When the weather changes and the winds bring a storm,
When the rain is heavy upon your head,
When you have walked far and stop for bread.
Please do remember me.

When you have crossed the burning desert,
and climbed the mountain side,
When you have entered the deepest forest,
and have crossed the ocean wide.
When you lay your head to sleep, and the day’s memories you try to keep,
Please do remember me.

Those people, who along the way you met,
to some you may owe a debt,
For their help, their love, and for their sweat,
for them like me, do not forget.
Those things that you have seen,
Tragic death, great hopes and loves, across every seam,
Along every highway, and the tracks to far off destinations,
and deep within many lost by-ways.
Do please do remember me.

When you have reached the place you seek,
and have been welcomed by the meek,
Will you try to look back upon your journey past?
and recall that flag upon the mast,
The one that signals from where you came,
and those still there all are without blame,
Who try to be just who they are,
But do not know they have a star.
Try if you can, to reach them all, and give them hope before they fall,
And please; do remember me.
