The Highway

I am going down the road on highway 61,
I’m going on a journey that’s only just begun.

I’m not sure if I can tell you, just what it is I’ve done,
But will try to be in touch with you,
Through the stars and through the Sun.

This journey is a long one, and it just has to be,
I’m now standing at a crossroads, and there are many signs,
And messages for me.

Some are from my friends, and some show very clearly
That the way I go from here is not really up to me.

When I look back in time, its just shadows that I see,
But when I look along this road its towards eternity.

A future is before me, and the distance is unknown,
But onward I must go, with my memories now on loan.

Each one I must account for, before they are confirmed,
For me this will be easy, for they are jewels Affirmed.

These jewels you all have given me, all throughout my life
And now they are here to help me, in this afterlife.

Many thanks to you all I give, for helping me along,
Those kind thoughts you have for me help to keep me strong.

But do not weep for me, you must keep going on
Do your best for man, and rewards will come to hand.

(2005)

I wrote this shortly after the death of my son Chris, is some attempt to stay in touch with him. and seem to have placed these words from his own perspective, as though they came from him...
