Wet and Lonely Road (Still a Little Lost

They were playing tricks on me, and I was trying not to cry
But I just stood there trying to defy it, and letting out a sigh
When out in the street the lights went off
But the old radio still played, sounding like cough

The house is now empty and they’ve left the set
Leaving me here stranded alone and in the quiet
The street sweeper goes up and down the road
Brushing away the evidence of their liquid diet

Now I’m just a little lost and not knowing what to do
When a uniform and badge bursts in through the door
I am grabbed and pushed and added to the queue
Then just a little later my face hits the floor

Next morning I’m on the road again and of course it’s raining
I’m more than lost now, can’t even think and my head is burning!
The neon sign is flashing just across the road
It’s light hurts my eyes, on and off, just like a code

Where to go now along this wet and lonely road
The rail line crossing gates are coming down
I must find my mind; get myself into a different mode
But I’m still a little lost, on this wet and lonely road
