Child of the Hood

Child of teachers of teachers
from generations afore,
teachers with only survival of
the fittest on their sordid minds,
lessons taught and lessons learned,
lessons with no future in mind
but a fast road to prosperity
without a civil plan to achieve it
and waiting for it to come about,

a plan to get it today and not tomorrow,
to get it with no skills or education,
to get it by force and not by acquirement,
to get it by deception and not integrity,
a plan of survival of the fittest,
a lifelong flirtation with life and death,

poor child with the hood in his soul,
of past generations of misguidance,
of friendship with misguided friends,
a comradery that makes him feel wanted
on a journey to an early death,
not able to break the mold
and rise above the mentality.

Poor child of the hood,
we don’t need you on our turf.
