Evacuation of the Nymphs

In the density of summers’ forests
where forest nymphs frolicked and danced
behind the copious leaves
that covered up their nakedness,
nocturnal Autumn arrived on schedule
to steal their abounding floral shields
that they danced behind.

The teeth of the frost bit into
the trees that supplied their cover up
and the cold chased them
away into oblivion.

Some say they went to the southern climes.
Some say they became invisible and
whistled like the wind through the barren trees.
Some say they will never come back again.
Some say they appealed to the authorities
to loosen the grip of Winter tide to
bring back the warmth so they
can frolic and dance again.
Some say they armed themselves
with spears and battle axes and
fought like hell to bring their shields
back so they can hide behind them again.

They are gone. (never to return?)
Now I can only see the empty spots
left behind where they used to be.
Even though I couldn’t see them
last summer, I can
imagine them frolicking
behind the leaves.
Please come back again
Nymphs of the forest green.
