Inside a Dream

Something was floating out in the prosaic air;
an object never seen or heard before,
getting closer as the sound got louder
until it stopped while still suspended in the air.
I heard it breathing inside a large pliable shell
that expanded with each breath
like a human heart.
It had my name written above the door
like it knew who I was.
With an empathetic, angelic voice it told me to enter.
I stepped inside and looked all around.

Beauty lit up the room and cast away the dark.
It appeared before my eyes and dove into my heart.
It brought poetic words to me that I didn’t know.
It put them in my mind and let them flow.

Trees became pliant and started to sing
as the sound blew through and started to ring.
They danced until the wee morning hours
until the opening of the Morning Glory flowers.

Words melted down into a sea of exotic charm.
Poetry and rhyme floated down arm and arm.
They opened up my mind and became so clear
as the words grew wings and flew into my ear.

Heaven dropped down to let me feel its texture,
its supple body and its hallowed smile so pure.
Then after the touch filled me full of sonnets to write,
my heart broke loose and danced into the night.

Then that object that came to me in my dream
flew away and left me wondering.
Maybe it wasn’t a dream but
a reality that happened to me.
I am a poet with two minds.
One is locked inside reality
and the other is drifting out into deep space.
