Rudiments

Rudiments

Little girl, for whom a joyful noise
Is for some but not enough for you
Your talent endowed by God alone
Waits for your utmost perfection

To become God’s chosen instrument
Is to seek command of your voice

Laborious tasks lie ahead for you
No road is too distant for one
Who advances deliberately and
Without haste
Rudiments of singing are painful but
No gratification is too distant
For one who prepares for the end
With patience

When your work is done
Give your all unto the Lord in song
With no doubts
Then reach into heaven
With your golden voice
And show Him what the rudiments
Have made you into

And sing little girl, sing
