The Pits of Wizardry

Magic spilling out of the cold cold abyss
from the bowels of the mystic earth,
the brewing of the cryptic witches
the burning of the holy scriptures,
or the building of the scaffold to heaven,
the righteous tainted with evil thoughts,
the rising of the saints of the sun
that will peak through the tattered clouds,
or the daggers from the eyes of the beast
from the holes of the enigmatic earth,
the pits of wizardry down inside
mixing a brew that will govern the earth
and spread its good will or enmity throughout
to see what the new morn has in store
when the day brings up the wizard’s brew
and lifts it up into the clean and sacred sky.

“Oh sun, thou God of light and darkness,
come forth through thy pastel colored clouds
that you painted with your feathery brushes.
Rain on what needs the raining.
Shine on what needs thy exultating powers.
Cast out the evil from the witch’s brewing.
Be careful of the trees in the forest.
Be merciful to the earth’s vulnerability.
Nurture the fragile crops in the fields.
Be kind to the ships on the high seas.
Make their voyage safe and sound.
Exercise thy power in a civil manner,
we beseech of thee.”
