Pain

There it is again: That Pain.
Where does it come from?
I can’t ever tell.

It is all around my body,
Yet why can’t I pinpoint it?
I can’t ever tell.

The sensation will never stop.
Will it ever give me peace?
I can’t ever tell.

The Pain rips and tears at me,
So why am I still intact?
I can’t ever tell.

There’s a knock at my door,
How can I hide my Pain?
I can’t ever tell.

All I want is the Pain to end.
Does that mean I need to put away the blade?
I can’t ever tell.

(2015)

This poem is about self-abuse and how it is much more than just physical pain. I tried a different poem style with the questions, the repeating statement, and the capitalization of Pain to convey the intended message. The final two stanzas are also about how self-abuse isn't always about recognition or attention but there are self-abusers who try to hide what they do.

#Pain #Self-abuse
